Prescription Policy

Prescription Medicine

If the condition is straightforward to diagnose or it is a repeat prescription, iPrimary Care doctors can offer prescriptions for you. However there may be occasions when you will need to be seen before prescribing certain medication through video consultation. Some common prescriptions include: levonelle, loestrin, microgynon, fluconazole, propecia, azithromycin, acyclovir, malarone, champix, or trimethoprim.

Repeat Medications

iPrimary Care is not a pharmacy. In the event a doctor does prescribe medication, he/she will limit the supply based on the GMC’s guide Good Practice in Prescribing and Managing Medicines and Devices and best practice guidance from the British National Formulary and National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). Short-term prescriptions for maintenance medicines may also be obtained, however, this is approved on a case-by-case scenario. Usually no more than one week’s supply will be prescribed. Patients with chronic conditions should visit their GP for extended care.

What We Don't Prescribe

iPrimary Care clinicians do not issue prescriptions for controlled substances, non-therapeutic, and/or certain other drugs which may be harmful because of their potential for abuse. These include, but are not limited to, certain medications for insomnia, anxiety or pain.

Limitations

iPrimary Care does not guarantee prescriptions. It is up to the clinician to recommend the best treatment. Prescriptions are not issued to anyone under 16 years of age. Prescriptions are not valid outside the UK.
